Spring has Sprung!

Grimsbury Subcontract

Nosotros've continued learning all nearly farms and farm animals throughout March, and linked our learning to the theme of Jump time. We had a fabled day out at Grimsbury Farm! It was lovely for the children to run across the animals up shut and to also see some of the new arrivals. The children were incredibly well behaved – true ambassadors for our Early Years.​

Science Week

We took part in the British Scientific discipline Week in March and completed some pretty cool experiments – Skittle color mixing and edible bean planting. Both had the children in awe! The children now regularly check the beans to encounter how much they take grown.

Feb Fun!

On the Farm

We started learning almost farms and farm animals, which will go along throughout March.

  • The children enjoy playing and exploring
    in our farm area.

  • Outdoor active fun - the children played 'The Farmer's in His Den' and loved it!

Measurement Comparisons

  • We explored weight and constitute out the difference betwixt 'heavy' and 'light'.
    The children chose different objects to counterbalance and discovered that rocks are heavy and feathers are light.

  • One boy worked independently to build a tall structure – he did an amazing task of balancing the blocks! He also understood that his structure is taller than himself and that he is shorter.

New Yr, New Launch!

Into Outer Space

The children were really interested in rockets, and then as an extension to their learning, nosotros became space explorers:

  • We built our very own rocket, and the children all helped to decorate information technology with pictures or writing.

  • The children fabricated papier-mâché planets, which they painted for our classroom Solar Organization.

  • Did you know nosotros had space people visit usa? They came from the planet Zork!

Looking After Our Planet

We were pleased to welcome a representative from Eco Pass up who came to talk to the children about 'reuse, renew and recycle'. The children were really engaged, asked lots of questions, and learned about some ways they can assist to await after our planet.

Christmas 2021 in the Early Years

Exploring the Christmas Story

The children had a keen fourth dimension using the felt board and figures to tell the Christmas story in pictural class.

They worked well in pocket-sized groups to bring information technology all together.

Christmas Party!

Our Christmas celebrations continued with a Christmas Party. The children enjoyed festive treats and they each received a gift from their 'Undercover Santa'.

Supporting the Customs

  • The children took part in Carmel City Church'southward annual Christmas 'Wise & Wonderful' event for the over sixty's. They sang a song and recited a scripture – we were so proud of them, and everyone loved their operation!

  • The children besides got involved with Carmel City Church's Christmas 'Hamper Project' that distributes nutrient hampers to many people in need throughout Bristol.

November Highlights

We're Going on a Bear Hunt

Our focus story during Nov was 'We're Going on a Carry Hunt'.
The children loved reading the book and going on lots of unlike hunts. One such chase saw them embarking on a 'tree hunt' from which they discovered lots of dissimilar trees in our setting.

Seasonal Changes

Equally we said farewell to Autumn, the children investigated pumpkins and squash. One time their investigations were over, we took the vegetables to a wooded surface area for the woodland creatures to banquet upon. In welcoming Winter, we learned about this cold season. The children wanted to explore ice, so we added salt and food colouring to blocks of ice to see what would happen. They enjoyed watching the effects and listening to it crackle.

Remembering...

An of import part of the month involved the children learning almost the men and women who fought so courageously for the freedom of our country. They painted poppies as a symbol of remembrance and gratitude, and they joined the nation in the ii-minute silence on the eleventh.

Life's a Beach!

October was a beach-themed month, with lots of fun and learning:

  • Our classroom was transformed into our own Early Years beach, complete with a stylish embankment hut!

  • The children enjoyed a picnic on our embankment with Mrs Fletcher.

  • Creative juices were flowing as the children used sand to make fine art and painted a big picture of the sea.

  • We took the train to Weston-Super-Mare and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! The children fabricated marks in the sand and splashed in the ocean!

Bake Off!

Forget the Great British Bake Off; we had our very ain Early on Years Bake Off! The children done all the equipment before we got started, then the team was set to go!

Autumn Adventures

Our showtime month back at school has been full of exploring and learning about things to do with Autumn.

In their investigations, the children discovered a lot of minibeasts, especially spiders! They were fascinated to find that in that location were so many spiders around, both within and out. They wanted to take a closer expect and talked about what they could see through the magnifying glasses.

Celebrating International Cuisines

In July, the school community gathered together to celebrate our diversity. Parents brought nutrient from their countries of origin, and the children were able to gustatory modality foods from effectually the world. Both sweet and savoury dishes were enjoyed by all.

All our efforts in the garden are paying off! Nosotros're now enjoying seeing the fruits, vegetables and herbs of our labour. Tin you spot what's been growing?

Best Moments in May

The nursery children have been exploring numbers using Numicon, which is an amazing multi-sensory maths resource that helps to make numbers 'existent' by providing physical objects to stand for each number.

They've also been using other objects and the connecting bricks to count. Ii of the boys decided to use the bricks in a different mode and count them on their fingers.

In the reception class, the girls have been learning how to utilize a number line to add and subtract - they have been and then pleased with their achievements, and we were very proud of them, too!

Fine-Motor Activities and More...

We have been accessing 'Dough Disco' on YouTube, which is a fine-motor activity to strengthen muscles in the hands. The children have really loved information technology – nosotros've noticed them using the same words used in the videos when they are playing with the dough!

We take also been planting and growing in our garden as well as learning about salubrious eating and looking after our teeth.

April Highlights

We've connected learning virtually different people who aid the states and their job roles. This month, nosotros found out about doctors and nurses. We set upwardly a hospital and the children practised looking after each other.

We also created a 'sensory room' where the children can explore different textures and lighting.

Outside Fun:

A massive thank you to anybody who came to help on our 'Garden Work Day' during the Easter Holidays.

The children are already enjoying the revamped exterior space: Melvin regularly likes to 'pigment' the wooden sleepers, which is swell practice for his fine motor skills. Florence has mastered stilt walking – hurray! She has too been very artistic in the mud kitchen, making a cake mixture and spooning it into smaller 'cupcake cases'.

All the children worked independently exploring different materials on the grass expanse. The result? They made dens and enjoyed playing hide and seek!

Garden Improvements!

Lots of people have been involved in improving our outdoor environment:

Thanks to one mum, we at present have a dedicated mud kitchen and an attractive array of cute flowers inside some wellington boots on the fence (we dearest the creativity!).

The children, too, have been decorated. They worked together to build a bug hotel, where they can now investigate and learn about the natural world as well as take intendance of creatures smaller than themselves. And they also fabricated windchimes for the garden.

A massive give thanks you to everyone who came to assistance on our 'Garden Work Twenty-four hours' during the Easter Holidays.

World Book Day

We joined in with World Book 24-hour interval on 4th March.

The teachers and children came to school dressed every bit their favourite book characters (come across which characters you can spot in the photo!), and everyone shared their stories with each other.

The Adventures of t he 'Naughty Motorcoach'

The children accept been enjoying the Naughty Charabanc, a story that follows the adventures of a toy London passenger vehicle every bit a immature boy plays with it throughout the mean solar day.

The book encourages conversation, visual literacy and imaginative play. It has linked with our exploration of different ways of travelling and people who assistance u.s.a..

Our naughty bus has been on lots of adventures and getting up to mischief, both indoors and outdoors!

To build parental partnerships, the charabanc has journeyed to each child's abode for a unique take a chance. Children and their parents wrote about the risk and added pictures they had drawn or photographs.

They made some tickets to sell, which led to them learning about coin (maths) and practising taking information technology in turns to be the driver or the ticket seller. The children also made their ain buses and added pictures of their friends and families.

The Naughty Bus has enabled lots of sensory learning and experiences. The children have become emersed in the story, and we're proud of the way they take been exploring, creating and actively learning.

Highlights from February 2021

Exploring!

The cold weather was great for exploring outdoors and finding out what happens when the temperature really drops.

The children became scientists and looked at the changes that happen when water becomes water ice and how long it takes for ice to become water once again.​

Discovering!

Discovery time brought together teamwork, lots of belfry building, measuring how alpine the towers became and critical thinking to overcome difficulties. The children showed the determination to succeed in their goal past persevering, irresolute and adapting.

Creating!

The children had neat fun thinking almost different colours and what happens when two or more colours are mixed together (cause and event).

Nosotros've been learning near 'Traditional Tales'. Starting with Goldilocks and the Three Bears, the children have been:

  • getting into graphic symbol with role play

  • exploring porridge (measuring, adding water, and likewise thinking near texture and changes)
